Communications

The Communication curriculum at Central Piedmont Community College is designed to serve college transfer, Communication pre-majors, and terminal/technical program students to improve the fundamental communication skills necessary for success in the contemporary world. Through our curriculum, students gain an understanding of the most effective forms of interactive communication and acquire the proficiency to apply them in public, interpersonal, intercultural, and team settings.

Corequisites: ENG 112, ENG 113 or ENG 114
This course introduces print and electronic media and the new information technologies in terms of communication theory and as economic, political, and social institutions. Emphasis is on the nature, history, functions , and responsibilities of mass communication industries in a global environment and their role and impact in American society. Upon completion, students should have an awareness of the pervasive nature of the mass media and how the media operate in an advanced post-industrial society. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for transferability as a premajorand/or elective course requirement.
